> Abstract: Biological diversity exists at many scales, from the global to the individual. Common to all these scales are analogous problems in sampling and estimation. In particular, samples typically underrepresent true diversity. I present a new statistical method for estimating behavioral diversity at individual and group levels. I focus on an example of estimation of behavior repertoire of individuals, stratified by age. The method is implemented in the probabilistic programming language Stan, and so is potentially generalizable to other domains and scales. I promise not to be too technical and show a few cool pictures of primates.
