dear all,

as some of you know, i am engaged in an initiative that wants to rescue from extinction the possibility of renting DVDs in Halle.

at the moment there is still a place that does that (FORMAT in the geissstrasse) and i have profited from it for many years. By visiting it regularly, i had the possibility of appreciaiting how important it has been, not just for me and my family, but also for the people of Halle, to have such an important collection of films (20000), some of them rarities, concentrated in a physical place, for us to marvel at and to learn and to be inspired from.

in times of netflix & co, life for cultural initiatives such as the one initiated by the owner of FORMAT, is very difficult. The owner cannot live from it and wants to give it up. And he will. His intention is to sell his DVDs and close at the end on 2024.

some people who, like me, profited enormously from it and see the closure of FORMAT as a great loss for the cultural scene in halle, decided to come together and found an association (a verein in german), called "Format Filmkunst e. V"  to try to, as a cultural association,  buy the DVDs from his current owner and by doing so, keep this activity alive.

on friday the 10th of may we present ourselves with an event that will take place at the puschkino at 1900 (Premiere - Der Format Filmkunst e. V. präsentiert: The General  <https://puschkino.de/film_2194/the_general_/>

the event is the screening of a silent film accompanied by live music. the cost of one ticket is 8 euro (reduced 7)

wie einige von euch wissen, engagiere ich mich in einer Initiative, die die Möglichkeit des DVD-Verleihs in Halle vor dem Aussterben retten will.

Im Moment gibt es noch einen Laden, der das macht (FORMAT in der Geißstraße) und ich habe viele Jahre davon profitiert. Durch regelmäßige Besuche hatte ich die Möglichkeit zu erkennen, wie wichtig es nicht nur für mich und meine Familie, sondern auch für die Leute in Halle ist, eine so bedeutende Sammlung von Filmen (20000), darunter viele Raritäten, an einem physischen Ort konzentriert zu haben, damit wir sie bestaunen, lernen und uns davon inspirieren lassen können.

In Zeiten von Netflix & Co. ist das Leben für Kulturinitiativen, wie die vom Inhaber des FORMAT initiierte, sehr schwierig. Der Inhaber kann davon nicht leben und will es aufgeben. Und das wird er auch. Er will seine DVDs verkaufen und am Ende des Jahres 2024 schließen.

Einige Leute, die wie ich enorm davon profitiert haben und die Schließung des FORMAT als großen Verlust für die Kulturszene in Halle sehen, haben sich zusammengetan und einen Verein gegründet, den "Format Filmkunst e. V.", um als Kulturverein zu versuchen, dem jetzigen Besitzer die DVDs abzukaufen und damit diese Aktivität am Leben zu erhalten.

Am freitag den 10. Mai präsentieren wir uns mit einer Veranstaltung im Puschkino um 1900 (Premiere - Der Format Filmkunst e. V. präsentiert: The General

Der preis für eine Eintrittskarte beträgt 8 euro (ermäßigt 7)
