Dear iDiv community,

We are excited to invite you to our symposium, “Bridging evolution and
ecology research at iDiv”. The symposium is organised by the
evolutionary biology interest group at iDiv (evoDiv), and will take
place on February 29 – March 1, 2024. It will consist of 1.5 days of
presentations and plenty of time for discussions and networking. We will
host 3 keynote talks from Walter Durka (UFZ), Stephanie Jurburg (UFZ),
and Yuko Ulrich (MPI-CE).

Integrating ideas across ecology and evolutionary biology are critical
for addressing fundamental questions about biodiversity and developing
practical applications to mitigate the biodiversity crisis. For example,
new data sources emerging from genetic tools for high throughput species
identification are rapidly becoming more common in ecological work. In
turn, concepts from ecology are inspiring new research directions in the
field of conservation genetics, among others. iDiv is well-positioned to
explore new research opportunities at the ecology and evolution
interface given its research strengths in broad-scale biodiversity
science, however achieving this synthesis will require bridging
expertise across ecologists and evolutionary biologists in the
consortium.

The goal of this symposium is to build and foster interdisciplinary
networks across researchers in the iDiv consortium from any career stage
working on, or interested in evolutionary questions.

Registration for the event is open to iDiv members and associated
researchers from the iDiv consortium. There is no registration fee. We
welcome submission of titles for both short talks and posters. We
particularly want to encourage iDiv members and early career researchers
(graduate students and postdocs) to attend and present proposed or
in-progress work.
