*Phylogenetics crash course – tree building for beginners*

*Content and goals*

Phylogenetic methods are at the heart of exploring and testing hypotheses
in evolution and ecology. This course will provide a practical introduction
to some of the fundamental tasks in phylogenetics including multiple
sequence alignment, selecting evolutionary models, and inferring,
visualising and interpreting phylogenetic trees. There is the possibility
to expand into more advanced topics (measuring support, trait evolution,
ancestral state reconstruction, hypothesis testing), depending on the
participants needs and wishes.



The participants will gain experience with some of the latest, freely
available software tools for phylogenetic analysis. All participants are
encouraged to bring their own data for phylogenetic analysis where
applicable.



*Lecturer*

Michael is Junior group leader @iDiv and Junior Professor @MLU. He has
worked with phylogenetics for the past ca 10 years.
