Cc Wilhelm - who asked me about wild bee activity in Halle and I forgot to answer him.

Wild bees are on the wing

Currently, there is a ’swarming’ of male Colletes cunicularius on the south side of the Brandberge Sporthalle, just across the road form us. The males have emerged and are searching for females (sex pheromone is linalool - their mandiblular glands smell lemon-like, which is linalool). The males will probably last at the rendezvous place for a couple of weeks.

Sara: on Sunday I saw my first male Anthophora plumipes for the season, partolling Pulmonaria flowers in my back garden
