Hi everyone,
as a follow up from your discussion on Friday, I want to share some posts
about it with you in case you are interested.
Many scientists seem to be unhappy with MDPI journals. First of all, they
seem to invite a lot of reviewers at the same time. By doing so, in many
cases, some are not needed any longer in case too many accept. That means
some even started reviewing and then get a notification that they are not
needed any longer. I think that is not a nice way to go.
They seem to have a suspiciously high number of special issues maybe to
"fish" for articles.
Editors seem to be pressured to accept publications and reviewers opinions
on rejecting are not taken into consideration. I also have a friend who got
invited as an editor for the journal insect but she has no ideas about
insects, she works with ecosystem services in general. There are numerous
blogposts/comments etc. online. I think one should avoid submitting papers
to these journals, as they make money with it.
