Most alpine flower-plants in temperate and tropical mountains depend on animals for pollination, in this places pollinator’s diversity is generally low compared with lowland diversity, the ratio of pollinator/plant abundance decreases with elevation, while generalist and specialized systems coexist. The plant reproductive ecology and plant-animal interactions are considered variables very sensitive to be affected by climatic changes, especially in the tropical mountain ecosystems where this interactions has received substantially less attention. In the Tropical Mountain from Venezuela we have been studied plant-pollinator systems and plant-pollinator networks in mature ecosystem and glacier retreat areas with a primary succession. These systems could be very sensitive to the loss of species because of their low nestedness, high levels of specialisation, endemism and functional complementarity. Despite being conceptually distinct, negatively correlated and having different causes, these patterns often co-occur. A realistic but seldom investigated alternative to these simple topologies is hierarchical compound networks, in which the entire network is modular, and modules are internally nested. In a series of studies we developed an extended methodological and conceptual framework to study network topology, discovered that hierarchical compound topologies are widespread among networks of different interaction kinds and exemplified how it may reveal underlying mechanims and affect the stability of species interaction networks. Compound topologies improve the depiction of ecological networks and differentiate ecological and evolutionary processes that operate at different hierarchical levels, with the potential to advance our understanding of network dynamics, stability and response to species loss or change.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt;
