Thanks in advance!</div><div class="">Margarita</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class=""><div class="">____________________</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><b class="">Postdoctoral Researcher in Applied Beekeeping<br class=""></b><br class=""><b class="">Job Description: </b>A postdoctoral position is available in the López-Uribe lab (<a href="http://www.lopezuribelab.com/" target="_blank" class="">www.lopezuribelab.com</a>) at Penn State University to work on a large collaborative project related to organic beekeeping and foraging behavior of managed honey bees. This USDA-funded project aims to investigate foraging ranges of honey bees in different landscapes by integrating behavioral data, radars, QR code data, and forage availability. We will test the role of colony size and landscape context on the average distance of foragers from different colonies. The project will generate a longitudinal dataset of 3 years that will offer opportunities for several peer-reviewed and extension publications.<br class=""><br class="">There will also be opportunities to be involved in extension work transferring research outputs from this project to beekeepers in the northeastern region and nationally. The primary responsibility of the successful candidate will include project coordination, honey bee management, lab work, data management and analysis, and communication of results. This project is collaborative in nature as it involves investigators from three institutions and an advisory panel with 10 members. The candidate should demonstrate a proven record of effectively working in large coordinated teams. Traveling to visit apiaries across Pennsylvania, New York, and Virginia to collect data is required.<br class=""><br class=""><b class="">Required Skills: </b>Qualified candidates are required to have a Ph.D. in entomology, ecology, biology, or related fields of study at the time of appointment. The applicant must be willing to work with honey bees and beekeeping experience is necessary. A strong publication record, organizational and communication skills, data management and analytical abilities are also required. The person in this position will be involved in grant writing, mentoring graduate and undergraduate students, and outreach/extension activities. The successful applicant will be expected to travel to perform field work and collect data, which requires being able to lift 50 lbs and obtaining a valid driver's license.<br class=""><br class="">This is a benefited, full-time postdoctoral researcher position.
