Specifically,<br class="">we will investigate the molecular mechanism underlying the local<br class="">adaptation to high elevations habitats in the honey bee. Of particular<br class="">interest here are chromosomal inversions on two chromosomes identified<br class="">previously that have shifted to high frequency on different haplotypes of<br class="">otherwise lowly differentiated chromosomes between highland and lowland<br class="">populations. Funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), the project<br class="">will be performed in close cooperation with Prof. Ricarda Scheiner<br class="">(University Würzburg), a second doctorate candidate and partners in<br class="">East Africa.<br class=""><br class="">Of particular relevance for the announced PhD position will be<br class="">the in-depth analyses of honey bee genomes and transcriptomes, thus<br class="">experiences in bioinformatics and a background from a population genetic<br class="">lab is advantageous. Further, we will use CRISPR/Cas9 method to understand<br class="">the role of selected candidate genes, thus organismic and molecular work<br class="">is included.<br class=""><br class="">We offer: DFG-funded PhD position (65% TV-L E13) for the duration of<br class="">3 years, work with up-to-date methodologies in a stimulating, friendly<br class="">and international atmosphere.
