<p class="m_-3220796289735522725Default"><b><span lang="EN-GB" style="font-size:11.5pt">Abstract:</span></b><span lang="EN-GB" style="font-size:11.5pt"> Pollinators and pollination services help to safeguard vital biodiversity and ecosystem functions in terrestrial ecosystems and
secure yields of crops. However, pollinators face multiple threats, including land-use change and conventional intensive agriculture, which are driving major declines worldwide and jeopardising these ecosystem benefits. Agricultural land-use and management
is a major driver of species losses and alters how plant-pollinator communities assemble and behave. Although this might have major consequences for pollination, the evidence on the link between land-use and management, pollinator interactions and genetic
health of wild plants remains scant. The PhD project will address this issue by investigating how agricultural management (agro-ecological vs conventional intensive management) changes pollinator diversity and species interactions to impact on pollen flow,
reproductive success and genetic structure in wild plant populations. The project will focus on wild plants (<i>Centaurea
</i>species), which are weeds that compete with crops and key parts of declining agrobiodiversity. By integrating agroecology, entomology, plant population genetics and mating system analysis with network and statistical modelling and using field observations
and experiments, this project aims to discover the ecological mechanisms by which land management modifies biological interactions underpinning population persistence of wild plants and pollinators in contemporary agricultural landscapes. The PhD student will
obtain multidisciplinary training and experience comprising community ecology, taxonomy, population genetics, experimental and survey design, network and statistical modelling, and generic transferable skills.

<p class="m_-3220796289735522725Default"><span style="font-size:11.5pt">Les pollinisateurs et les services de pollinisation contribuent à préserver la biodiversité et les fonctions vitales des écosystèmes terrestres et à assurer le rendement des cultures. Cependant, les pollinisateurs
sont confrontés à de multiples menaces, y compris le changement d'affectation des terres et l'agriculture intensive conventionnelle, qui entraînent des déclins importants dans le monde entier et compromettent ces services ecosystémiques. L'utilisation et la
gestion des terres agricoles sont l'un des principaux facteurs de la perte d'espèces et modifient la façon dont les communautés végétales et pollinisatrices s’assemblent et se comportent. Bien que cela puisse avoir des conséquences majeures, les preuves sur
le lien entre l'utilisation et la gestion des terres, les interactions entre pollinisateurs et le maintien des populations de plantes sauvages restent rares. Le projet de doctorat abordera cette question en étudiant comment la gestion agricole (gestion agro-écologique
par opposition à la gestion intensive conventionnelle) modifie la diversité des pollinisateurs et les interactions entre les espèces pour influer sur les flux de pollen, le succès de reproduction et la diversité génétique des populations de plantes sauvages.
Le projet se concentrera sur les espèces du genre <i>Centaurea</i>, qui sont des adventices des cultures et des éléments clés du déclin de l'agrobiodiversité. En intégrant l'agroécologie, l'entomologie, la génétique des populations végétales et l'analyse des
systèmes de reproduction à la modélisation des réseaux et à la modélisation statistique et en utilisant des observations et des expériences de terrain, le doctorat vise à découvrir les mécanismes écologiques par lesquels la gestion des terres modifie les interactions
biologiques qui sous-tendent la persistance des plantes sauvages et des pollinisateurs dans les paysages agricoles modernes. Le doctorant obtiendra une formation et une expérience multidisciplinaires comprenant l'écologie des communautés, la taxonomie, la
génétique des populations, la conception d'expériences et d'enquêtes, la modélisation statistique et en réseau, et des compétences génériques transférables.<u></u><u></u></span></p>
