Biological Technician / Lab manager (m/f/d)<br/>
(pay scale EG 9 TV-L)<br/>
Position number: 5519-10-ml<br/>

- Full time -<br/>
<br/>
on a permanent position. The applicant will support the research group<br/>
with a focus on Evolution, Behavior and Ecology of Social Insects<br/>
(<a href="https://evo.bio.uni-mainz.de" target="_blank">https://evo.bio.uni-mainz.de</a>) in research and teaching.<br/>
<br/>
Responsibilities:<br/>
<br/>
- Development, application and teaching of methods in molecular<br/>
biology, behavioral and chemical ecology for the research and<br/>
teaching programme on the evolution of ants and bees.<br/>
- Support of scientific projects, including conducting<br/>
independently subprojects and supporting the preparation of<br/>
manuscripts and research grants (e.g. compiling and<br/>
visualisation of research results, budget calculations).<br/>
- Laboratory management (ordering of laboratory materials,<br/>
support and care of laboratory instruments, laboratory hygiene<br/>
and safety).<br/>
- Preparation of teaching courses and excursions.<br/>
- Laboratory maintenance of social insect colonies.<br/>
<br/>
Conditions of employment:<br/>
<br/>
- Training as a biological technician or similar proficiencies and<br/>
experiences<br/>
- Extensive Research experience is an advantage<br/>
- Very good skills in written and oral English<br/>
- Very good knowledge of techniques in molecular biology and<br/>
behavioral and chemical ecology<br/>
- Familiarity with statistical and bioinformatic analyses is<br/>
an advantage<br/>
- Good Skills in<br/>
- Organisation of a modern, methodological diverse laboratory<br/>
- MS-Office and reference manager software<br/>
- the scientific approach and terms<br/>
<br/>
Expected in addition:<br/>
- Interest in the research and work with social insects<br/>
- Ability and enthusiasm to work in an international team<br/>
- Work independence and effective organisation of work<br/>
- Development and training of new laboratory techniques<br/>
- Participation in seminars and meetings of the research group<br/>
<br/>
We invite candidates without an official training as a biological<br/>
technician to apply. However, we have to mention in this context, that<br/>
they will be grouped into EG 9 with longer times in pay levels, resulting<br/>
in a slower pay increase over time (The level 3 will be reached after<br/>
5 years in level 2, level 4 will be reached after 9 years in level 3,<br/>
there are no levels 5 and 6).<br/>
